If you have a medical condition and want to ensure you’re on the right treatment plan, or you’re keen to understand more about your condition and options, you can use the Expert Medical Opinion service through Vivo.

Expert Medical Opinion, provided by mlcoa, is available at no additional cost to MLC Life Insurance customers. mlcoa is part of the MedHealth Group of companies and the largest provider of Independent Medical Opinions in Australia.

The service matches an independent specialist to your condition. The specialist can respond to your questions or concerns, including advice on your diagnosis and treatment plan.

The specialist will provide you with a report written in a way you’ll understand. They may even call you to talk about your condition if you’re happy for this to occur.

The expert’s opinion is confidential. It is not shared with us as your insurer, and will only be sent to your treating doctor with your consent.

Who has access to this service?

Expert Medical Opinion is available to all current MLC Life Insurance policy holders and their immediate family members. It is also available to employees of some corporate partners and super fund members and their immediate families. Additionally, financial advisers who have a partnership with MLC Life Insurance and staff of their practices can also access our service. We’ll confirm your eligibility when you submit an enquiry for an Expert Medical Opinion with the Vivo wellbeing team.


You’ll receive an in-depth call from an mlcoa concierge within two business days of your initial request to help you understand the process and answer any questions you have. If you decide to proceed, you should have your Expert Medical Opinion within two to three weeks.

What to expect

Request an Expert Medical Opinion

You can request an Expert Medical Opinion by emailing our Vivo team at A dedicated mlcoa concierge will contact you within two business days to guide you through the process and answer your questions.

Collecting medical information

Your mlcoa concierge will work with you to collect any medical information you have at hand. The expert will base their opinion on the information you make available. Your concierge will let you know if having further medical information could assist with a more detailed expert opinion. In some cases, they may be able to collect medical records on your behalf through a secure channel.

Selecting the best expert

Your concierge will select the most suitable expert qualified to help you based on your condition and questions.

What's in the expert opinion

The expert reviews your questions and any supporting materials made available. They may wish to call you to discuss your condition and answer your questions, but this happens only with your consent. In all cases, you’ll receive an in-depth report with advice on your diagnosis and treatment options. It’s up to you if you want your report to be shared with your treating doctor.


Additional information

Expert Medical Opinion services are not available for acute care (emergency room) cases, obstetric, dental or cosmetic conditions or if you are a hospital inpatient. Vivo Virtual Care (and MLC Life Insurance) does not pay the costs for medical treatment, travel, accommodation and any other associated costs.

Expert Medical Opinion isn’t insurance (including health insurance) and it doesn’t replace your relationship with your current doctor or medical specialist.
